Dear Family, It was so wonderful being in the company of my family. July 14-15, 2006 is a weekend I will always remember. I am very much concerned about literacy and the economic plight of our people. I’ve traveled nationwide; and have found similar problems in every city – widespread illiteracy, high incarceration rates and high unemployment rates. Our future is bleak unless we correct these inequalities. We must correct these problems, if we cannot do it with the experience, history and wisdom we have, how can we expect our children to do it with their lack of experience, history and wisdom? We owe our children “Big Time.” For some reason, we have relaxed and fell under the illusion that all is well – when the reality is that all is not well. We must set new priorities. Entrepreneurship is the basis for strengthening our economic base. We must teach our children while in college or trade school that they must consider a business opportunity for themselves so that they can provide employment for themselves and their children. Jobs do not perpetuate jobs… businesses do. We must support Black-owned business. We must let our children see us going out of the way to support Black-owned businesses. If you encounter a problem with a Black-owned business report it to the owner. Never say, “I will never go to another Black-owned this or that.” I am sure that we have all been treated unfairly or poorly by other races while doing business… however, I have never heard a Black person say, “I’ll never do business with another white-owned business.” We must support Black-owned businesses so that they can thrive, versus merely survive. This will encourage our children to want to own their own business. After all, why would your children want to inherit a struggling business? The Harvest Institute, a Black-focused research, policy, and educational organization, has uncovered the following facts about unemployment rates for Blacks and compared it to other population groups. While the national unemployment rate for Asians and Arabs is zero, only 4.5 percent for Whites and 4.56 percent for Hispanics, Dr. Claud Anderson, President of The Harvest Institute, points out that “The hidden national unemployment rate of Black Americans has remained fixed at 35 percent. In cities like Baltimore and Detroit 48 percent, Pittsburgh is 49 percent, for Black males in New York, it is over 51 percent and the national Black youth unemployment figure is nearly 87 percent. When the national unemployment rate for Whites hit 25 percent in the 1930s, this country declared a national disaster and mobilized the country to bring it down. Why is this country focusing on creating jobs for newly arriving Hispanic immigrants when Black unemployment is so astronomically high? Black parents admonish their children to get a good education; telling them to work hard and that success will follow. But, according to an article entitled “Will Your Job Survive?” that appeared in the March 22nd, 2006 issue of the Washington Post, the direct connection between education and employment has weakened. (A21) In the article, columnist Harold Meyerson warns of the serious threat that globalization poses to the near-term future of the U.S. He notes that all categories of American jobs are rapidly disappearing. And, in 2004, Jeremy Rifkin wrote in his book, entitled The End of Work, “…only 25% of the jobs that exist now will continue to exist in the workplace by the year 2015.” Hispanics alone filled over 41% of the newly created jobs since May 2005. Is education the key factor in immigrants getting jobs? Teach your children to become job producers instead of job seekers. Teach them how to identify business opportunities. It is imperative that we create Family Resource Guides and Family Business Directories in order to network within your own families. After reading this letter, I trust you will see that economic deprivation is at the root of most of the problems African-Americans face. Why A Family Resource Guide Is Important A Family Resource Guide will serve as a resource center for our family via: Providing information needed to excel in ones career, business and ones education.

Clara King Why A Family Business Directory Is Important The focus in the new millennium has been “Global Economy”. We are doing business with China and other countries more than ever before. It is time that we consider doing business with our family members nationwide. And, we must seek to strengthen the economy of our Motherland – Africa. All of us know someone in another state that we can refer to our family member businesses. We can purchase products and some services from businesses run by family members located in other states. After all, many businesses offer products and services via the Internet. Sample Business Directory Entry:
Owner’s Name: Dr. Rosie Milligan I have enclosed with this letter “Facts Blacks Need To Know,” and the status of Blacks in Los Angeles and in California, I am sure that there are similarities throughout the nation. Yours Truly, Dr. Rosie Milligan Facts Blacks Need To Know America’s social democracy and competitive society is based upon two basis premises: (1) the majority population wins and rules and the minority loses; and (2) wealth and power follows the population numbers. Fact: Racist immigration laws and socioeconomics policies have made Black people this nation’s only permanent, minority loser. A Comparative Example based upon U.S. Census data: § In 1840, when Blacks could only enter this country as slaves, there were nearly five million Blacks, zero Latinos, zero Asians and zero Arabs. § By 1900, natural births had produced 11 million Blacks while natural births and immigration had increased the number of Hispanics/Latinos to 100,000. (Blacks out numbered Hispanics 110 to one.)
§ Yet, in 2000, there were 36 million Blacks and 38 Hispanics. This massive increase in the Hispanic population allowed them to catch and surpassed Blacks in numbers, wealth, and power. § How was this achieved? A zero immigration quota and natural birthrate held Black Americans to a 300 percent increase from 1900-2000. § A combination of natural births and unlimited immigration allowed Hispanics/Latinos a 36,000 percent increase between 1900-2000.
The only way that Blacks can survive in a democratic society is to follow the rule of democracy, acting on the concept of the majority rule. The PowerNomics principles, which are given to us by Dr. Claud Anderson in his book PowerNomics—A National Plan To Empower Black America, is without a doubt, the only plan that will empower Black America economically and politically. Where there is a high concentration of Blacks, then Blacks must dominate in those businesses. But that is not the situation. Instead, Blacks are the majority consumers. How do we turn our economic plight around? Blacks must invest in Black-owned businesses nationwide via partnership or as stockholders, and Blacks must practice the “race-first” philosophy. It is something culturally wrong with a people who will help to provide jobs, education, shelter, etc., for everybody’s children but their own. There is a direct correlation between the economic plight and social ills of Blacks; be it housing, health, incarceration, drug involvement, homelessness, etc. Blacks are often deceived due to mainstream research regarding the unemployment rate and poverty rate. The unemployment index for Los Angeles does not take into consideration: the 90,000 homeless people in the county of Los Angeles—with a majority being Black; the homeless who don’t know they are homeless because they are living with a relative since they cannot afford to rent a place of their own; and those ex-offenders who, because of rejection, do not show up at the employment office to look for work. The Harvest Institute, a Black-focused research, policy, and educational organization, has uncovered the following facts about unemployment rates for Blacks and compared it to other population groups.
